WATAMU BEACH
Watamu is a small town located 15 km south of Malindi on the Indian Ocean coast of Kenya. Enjoy its white-sand beaches and reef-protected lagoons line which and boasts a rich marine life from the visiting Whale Sharks and Manta Rays to three species of Sea Turtle.
Best time to visit Watamu is December - March and July - October. In low tourist season most hotels and restaurants close.
Climate. Humid with mean annual temperatures ranging from 22-34 C.

Get to the Watamu
By plane from Nairobi to Malindi Airport (7.500 KES). There take a taxi to Watamu.

What to do in Watamu Beach
Enjoy the beaches in the three lagoons: Blue Lagoon, Turtle Bay or Watamu Bay. Locals rent hammoks for 100 KES /day and sell coconuts and local dishes.
Gedi Ruins. Some Swahilis rests.

Snorkel in Watamu Marine National Park. Haven of green turtle and unique coral garden. Take a boat and dive in this marine reserve. It is possible to spot dolphins. Arrange a boat in the KWS Offices in Turtle Bay. Boat trips from 2.500 KES half day. You must wake up early if you want to spot dolphins.

Whale watching. From early July to end September, Hemingways Watamu organises boat trips to spot Humpback whales (prices from 10.000 KES). To book write an email fishing.centre@hemingways.co. Light snacks and bottled water provided and a guide.

As it is national marine reserve you cannot do snorkel in the shores of the beach without paying the park fees.
