OL PEJETA CONSERVANCY

This non-profit wildlife conservancy with 360 sq. km is located in Laikipia County, west of Nanyuki. Here the visitors may find one of the most important rhino sanctuary in the world. However, this park is usually attacked by.poachers and the number of rhinos is decreasing every year.

Ol Pejeta Concervancy attracts tourists from around the world due to its sanctuary for white rhino and critically endangered black rhino. The last two female northern white rhinos in the world live here, while the last male northern white rhino died of old age at Ol Pejeta in March 2018. Now, to keep the species from becoming extinct, scientists attempted last year to implant an embryo from these rhinos into a southern white that will act as a surrogate mother. The climate is cold and wet, specially at nights and best months to visit is from June - September.

Here you will find

Morani Centre where visitors will learn about the conservation work at Ol Pejeta. A blind black rhino called Baraka is the mascot of the centre. Be in the morning to see the keeper feeding Baraka!. Visitors also will find a restaurant to have a delicious coffee.

Ol Pejeta rhino cemetery. The tombstones are a stark reminder of how illegal poaching is fast depleting the rhinos and of the devastation of the illegal wildlife trade.
