NGARE NDARE FOREST

Ngare Ndare Forest is a lush indigenous forest maintained by the local communities at the foothills of Mt. Kenya. Azure pools glisten at the bottom of waterfalls and 200-year-old trees stretch into the canopy supporting a rich variety of bird and animal life. The forest is a vital corridor that links the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy to Mount Kenya, and one which elephants have been using for centuries.

Climate. Tempreratures can be really fresh at nights.
 

How to get

By road from Nairobi takes 250 km - 4 hours. You will pass close to Lewa Conservancy edge, pay attention to spot giraffes or elephants.


Camping
There are two campsites equipped with clean running water, a toilet and a bathroom. They provide firewood. No power.

Fees. Resident Adult  3.000 KES- Child 1.500 KES    Non Resident Adult 5.000 KES - 2.500 KES Child

Ranger safety is mandatory (1.000 KES / night).

What to do

All activities require ranger safety 1.000 KES / day.

Forest trail to falls and take a bath. There is dirty road heading to falls but is only for 4WD. The hike takes 1-2 hours and the water is cold as it source from a mountain spring near Mt Kenya. There are other smaller natural pools up where you can try to jump.

Hire a ranger is mandatory as they are wild elephants in surroundings.

Tree canopy walk. A 450 m long bridge suspended 30 feets above the ground, the 1st one of its kind in East Africa. Visitors walk to enjoy a bird's eye view of the forest, which ends on a high platform where one can view elephants and other wild animals drinking water from the swamp below.

Tana River Rafting (2 hours from Nairobi). Companies such as SavageWilderness.

Resident Adult  2.000 KES- Child 1.000 KES    Non Resident Adult 4.000 KES - 2.000 KES Child.

Car fees: 500 KES.
