SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

Samburu National Reserve is a unique natural gem covering 165 sq. km in North of Laikipia. Those vast northern deserts hot, and dry are also the traditional homeland of the Samburu people, Visitors can do game drives along the Ewaso Nyiro river that waters herds of elephant and rare dryland fauna of northern Kenya, the ‘Samburu Five’ comprising of Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and Grevy’s zebra.

Best season to visit Samburu National Reserve is June-October as temperatures are fresher.

The climate is really  dry and warm.

By road it's  situated 350 kilometers from Nairobi (6-7 hours).

Archer’s Gate, the main gate near Archer’s Post, just a few kilometres off the Marsabit highway

West Gate at the western border with West Gate Community Conservancy.

Kalama Gate in the north at the border with Kalama Community Conservancy. 

Waso Bridge Gate, coming from Buffalo Springs National Reserve.

Larsen's Public Campsite

Beautiful location near a sandy beach down to the Ewaso Nyiro river. Crocodiles are around so swimming is forbidden. There, guests will find basic toilets, non-potable water, firewood and ranger safety. There is no power. Bring drinking water, picnic itemscamping equipment and torches if you intend to stay overnight.

Animals sighted

Gerenuk (few), Grevy's zebra (lots), oryx (lots), reticulated giraffe (lots). elephants (lots), cheetah (one), olive baboon (lots), velvet monkeys (lots), warthogs (few), Grant's gazelle, (lots) Kirk's dik-dik ((few), impala (lots), and waterbuck (few), olive baboon (lots). There are over 350 species of bird.

Lion, leopard Cape buffalo and hippopotamus, crocodile, black rhinos.
