MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE
Masai Mara National Reserve is a vast and scenic African savannah plains (1.510 sq. km) located in the south west of Kenya, bordering the Serengeti National park in Tanzania . This natural reserve is home to a spectacular diversity of wildlife including the Big Five. Don't miss the wildebeests migration between June to October.
The climate is dry and warm during the day but cold and fresh at nights.

How to get to Mara
By car from Nairobi. It takes 5 hours (270 km). The road from Narok is under construction but it will end soon.
The other road through Lemek and Aitong town is not good at all and very bumpy.
Private Land cruiser or vans for safaris (includes pick ups / drop from airport) 120-170 USD /day.
By plane.here are some airstrips in the reserve. It’s 40-45 minutes.

Entrances
Talek Gate. It is located on the North western side.
Sekenani Gate. It is located on the eastern side. It is the main gate because it is on the road from Narok Town.
Musiara Gate. is located on the north eastern side, a short distance east of Oloololo gate.
Oloololo Gate. It's is a entrance to Mara Triangle located on the north eastern side.
Ololaimutia Gate. Located in hilly eastern end of Masai Mara national reserve.

Accommodation
Please book in advance for high season. In nights and early morning temperatures can be fresh. Pools are an advantages only if you want to come back to the lodge in midday, otherwise forgot to use it. Accommodation includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Mara Leisure Camp. Near Talek river. Mid-range option with double bed rooms from 200 USD. Pool included.
Rex’s (cheap option)
Enkewa. Managed by Spanish, they offer personal safaris and spotting Big 5 is guaranteed. They offer a package including flights to Mara private land cruiser, Spanish style dishes among other advantages.
Loyk Mara Luxury Camp. Mid-range option near Olare Orok conservancy. It's quite far from park gate. Pool included.
Mara Serena Safari Lodge. One of the best and luxury hotels in Mara triangle. They have pool and spectacular views from the hills.
Sarova Mara Game Camp. A luxury hotel inside of the Maasai Mara reserve with all kind of facilities.
Rhino Camp. A cheap camp located near Oloolaimutia Gate. (wide wildlife surroundings).
Enkorok. A mid-range camp located near Oloolaimutia Gate. (wide wildlife surroundings).

Camp in Mara National Reserve is not allowed from 2019. You must do it in Mara Triangle.

Public Campsite in Mara triangle (there are also private campsites for being alone)
Avoid camping in rain season, it's too muddy. Public Campsites include Eluai, Iseiya and Oloololo Campsites. Private campsites include Ndovu, Dirisha, Kijito, Kishanga, Kiboko and more. See www.marabookings.co.ke/ to book private camps. Visitors must bring water and firewood. There is not power.

What to do
Migration. Wildebeests and zebras crossing Mara River (from June-October). Track migration using this website.
Visit a Maasai Village (now it's a show for tourists)
Visit Mara triangle. Visitors must pay another entry ticket (Adult 70 USD - Child 40 USD, Resident Adult 1.000 KES - 300 KES). Car fees: 400 KES. Entry via Purungat Bridge Gate, Oloololo Gate or Serena Airstrip. Here you can spot easily rhinos.
Visit Kenya-Tanzania border.

There are not any shops in Mara reserve, therefore, buy in Narok Shopping Center.
