VICTORIA FALLS

Victoria Falls or called "the smoke that thunders" by local tribes is the largest fall in the world with a length of more than a kilometer and a height of more than hundred meters. Feel as the explorer David Livingstone when he discovered the falls in XIX Century.

Best season to visit Victoria Falls is from November to April (highest water peak, however it can be very difficult to see the falls due to the evaporation.

​Climate is dry with mean annual temperatures ranging from 30 - 34 C.

A couple of days is enough to visit the falls.

Get to Victoria Falls via Zambia

By plane to Lusaka Airport (24 hours open). From there, take a taxi to the  Bus Terminus (from 15-30 USD). There ask for a bus heading to Livingstone. They stars from 6 am to 16 pm. The journey takes 7-8 hours. Best bus company is Shalom 

Use ULENDO taxi app to move around Lusaka.

You will find shops for buying SIM Cars, supermarkets, fast food restaurants, ATMs, etc.

Accommodation

Backpackers Jolly Boys. Best choice in Livingstone. Here you will find great rooms with air condition, pool, restaurant, bar from 15 USD / day. They provide a shuttle to the falls at 10.00 am.

Lusaka Backpackers (in Lusaka). Basic facilities, beds with mosquito nets, WiFi, summing pool, restaurant from 10 USD/ night.

What to do

Visit Falls (Zambia and Zimbabwe sides) Visitors must pay dayvisa in Zimbabwe (20 USD) and again in Zambia (50 USD). Taxis from Livingstone to the falls from 10 USD. Payments in USD and credit card are accepted.

Zambia National Park (20 USD)  visits take 1-2 hours. 

Schedule: the park opens daily at 6 am, and closes at 6 pm. Early openings allow to see sunrises.

Please be aware that during the months of late September, October, November and even early December (if the rains are late), the Zambian side of the Falls, also known as the eastern cataract are completely dry. Sunsets here are spectacular. Mid-mornings and mid-afternoons are both good for rainbows. Great views to bridge.

 

Zimbabwe National Park (30 USD) visits take 1-2 hours. 

Schedule: 1st September to 30th April - Opens 6 am and Closes 6 pm / 1st May to 31st August - Opens 6.30 am and Closes 6 pm. Early openings allow to see sunrises and mornings the rainbows are excellent .

In both sides you will find shops to buy some souvenirs.

Other activities that local operators offer as packages or individually:

Devil Pool from 100 USD.  Have a bath in the edge of the Zambia falls. It includes the entry tickets to Zambia Falls. There are different times to choose. You must be at the Park offices ait time arranged.

White Rafting from 115 USD 3-4 hours. In the months with lowest water peak rafting will locate in upper-river (best part!).

Puenting (111 m) from the iconic bridge of Victoria Falls.

Flight in Microlight or Helicopter from 150 USD 15-30 minutes. Bring your own camera is not allowed. Recommendation for months with high water peak and bad visibility.

From Livingstone Bus Station, last bus departs in 16 pm.​
